"El mes de febrero de 1922 fue propicio para la poesía de Rilke: en tres semanas frenéticas quedaron completados dos de los poemarios más importantes del siglo XX: las Elegías de Duino (publicadas recientemente en Abada) y Los sonetos a Orfeo, que surgieron en un arrebato de inspiración como consecuen­cia y culminación de aquéllas. Rilke se refiere a estos sonetos como un «don» o «regalo», y a esos días turbulentos de febrero como «una tormenta sin nombre, un huracán del espíritu».
