Au retour, ils se perdent dans un brouillard blanc et reviennent par un labyrinthe de canaux dans la banquise compacte, puis par des fjords encombrés de glaces dérivantes et d'icebergs chahutés par la houle et les vents, qui rendent leur retour à Ammassalik incertain. Le danger accroît les tensions au sein de l'équipe.
