As we remember modern economics has its origin from the writings of the Scottish Social philosopher and pioneer of political economy called Adam Smith. One of the key figures of the Scottish 'Enlightenment, ' Smith is the author of the The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1) and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, (2) which is considered his magnum opus and the first modern work of economics. It was this that earned Adam Smith an enormous reputation and made him become one of most influential works on economics ever published. In fact Adam Smith is widely cited as the father of modern economics and Capitalism. Adam Smith was influenced by writers like David Hume and Voltaire in France who made him define 'Sympathy' as the feeling of: moral sentiments, and gave more attention to jurisprudence and economics.
