Over time, I have built a few habits to help with keeping my coin stash healthy that does not require me playing all day. Here are my favorite ways to get and save coins in Matchington Mansion.

1. I Focus on Winning Levels Without Buying Extra Moves

This seems very simple, but it took me a while to stop panicking and buying five extra moves whenever I got close. Now, if I fail a level with only one or two items left, I refrain from clicking on that fancy extra-buttons. Sometimes, it is worth spending coins, especially if I have a color bomb on the board and only need one more move. But, if the board is a disaster, I let it go and try again later.

My rule of thumb is that, if I do not have a good set up already on the board, I do not spend coins on extra moves. This rule has saved me lots of coins. A fresh attempt can be surprisingly better than trying to save a doomed board.

2. I Collect Daily Rewards Whenever I Can

I always make sure to open up the game daily, if I don't have the time to play a full session, at least to get my daily rewards and gifts.

Some days it might just take a minute. Opening the game, collecting the daily gifts, seeing if there is an event going on, and then closing it. It's always appreciated in case I really need a few more coins or boosters during a tough stage.

I treat it as watering a plant, except occasionally this plant throws me a hammer booster.

3. I Play Limited-Time Events

Events are my favorite parts of Matchington Mansion, since they give me something else to focus on other than redecorating Tiffany's mansion. Depending on the event, I can earn rewards such as coins, boosters, lives or other helpful goodies just by playing levels and completing tasks. When there is an event going on, I try to play strategically:

I save difficult levels for when there is an event reward.

I check the reward track before spending boosters.

I try not to miss the final milestones if I'm close to them.

There is nothing more frustrating than realizing I was only one level away from a reward and the event was over the night before. Yes, this has happened to me. Yes, I still think about it.

4. I Make Boosters Instead of Buying My Way Out

The best tip I can give on coin saving is making boosters on the board whenever I can. A well-placed rocket, bomb, paper plane or color bomb can change the entire level. And, combining boosters is even better. Rocket plus bomb is beautiful. Color bomb plus any other booster is chef's kiss.

Before I make a random match, I glance around for possible five-in-a-row or T/L-shaped matches. Sometimes the best move is not to clear the most pieces right away, but to make a booster for the next turn.

I used to rush through levels by matching whatever sparkled first. Now I'm a little more patient. A little. If a paper plane is bouncing around, all strategic thinking will leave my brain.

5. I Save Coins for the Levels That Really Matter

I try to keep a "coin emergency fund". I don't have a huge amount, but I like having the coins available for particularly stubborn level. For me, coins are most useful in:

I'm a move or two away from winning.

I'm at the end of a valuable event milestone.

I have a great combo ready to go.

I'm on a level I've already replayed enough times to know I can win with a tiny push.

On the other hand, I avoid spending coins just because I'm impatient. That is when my stash disappear the fastest.

6. I Don't Ignore Free Ads or Bonus Offers, When Available

If I'm offered an optional ad in exchange for a small reward, extra moves or a bonus, I'll sometimes take it, when I'm relaxing with my coffee and not in a hurry. I don't rely on these offers, since availability can change, but free little bonuses are still free little bonuses. A few coins here and a booster there can help me over the long run.

7. I Check My Messages, Team Features, and Social Rewards

If you are connected to friends or a team in the game, it can be worth checking the social features on a regular basis. Even though money isn't directly involved, getting lives from friends can save me coins from not having to buy more lives when I'm on a streak.

Having extra lives is dangerous for my sleep schedule, but wonderful for my coin balance.

The best trick is to take breaks when I'm frustrated.

When I'm annoyed at a level, I make terrible decisions. I waste coins, use boosters too early, and match things randomly with the energy of someone looking for their keys while running late.

When I come back to try again later, I often beat the level in few tries or on the first try. Apparently, my mansion-decorating instincts need snacks and fresh air.

That is how I keep my Matchington Mansion coin collection from disappearing every time a difficult level comes up. I collect daily rewards, play events, use boosters wisely, save coins for real emergencies and avoid buying extra moves just because I'm one jelly tile away from victory.
