Dans l'Allemagne de la fin des années soixante, Klaus Schulze est l'un des premiers musiciens à faire exister un nouveau son, s'affranchissant des normes et posant les bases de l'Ecole de Berlin de la musique électronique. Il participe au premier album de Tangerine Dream, fonde Ash Ra Tempel avant de démarrer une carrière solo en 1972 jalonnée de près de 200 disques. Sur son parcours il croise Olivier Messiaen, Bob Marley, Bob Moog, Steven Wilson, Hans Zimmer, Denis Villeneuve...
Pionnier de la musique planante, considéré comme l'un des pères de la techno, s'essayant au classique, à l'opéra, il connaît à partir de 2007 un regain d'inspiration grâce à son association avec Lisa Gerrard, du groupe Dead Can Dance.
