2) The server always runs 24 × 7. Even if the hardware fails, it provides server services even in this case. If it is a PC, the server automatically shuts down when the power goes out. This can cause your data to be lost, but the servers are equipped with many power supplies. For this reason, the failure of a power supply does not affect normal system operation.

3) The server uses many hard drives working in the RAID configuration instead of the single hard drive used in PC to avoid data loss or interruption, therefore the server has a higher storage capacity.

4) The server allows us to access the file storage and many computers on the network. The server is also called the computer used in the network. A server usually has more memory, storage space and processing power than a client computer.

Types of servers

There are many types or kinds of servers. Different servers function differently. From website hosting to internet network security to email and video services, all tasks are done by a server. So let us find out about the many types of servers in use today.

  • Web server: A web server is server software or hardware that runs websites. It is also referred to as a computer programme. Its main function is to shop, process and deliver the web page to the user. It uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for internal communication. We have already given information about what the protocol is.
  • Application server: An application server is a programme that manages all application operations of the user’s and company’s back-end business application or database. It is a framework where an application server is used to develop and run all applications. There are different types, such as PHP, Java and . NET.
  • Proxy server: Also commonly known as a “proxy”. It acts as a gateway between the user and the Internet. When a client connects to a proxy server and requests a service. For example, for a website, it checks how it can simplify and control the complexity of this request. It acts as an intermediary between the client programme and the external server for sharing network connections, filtering network data and caching data.
  • File Server: Primarily provides space for storing files  within a network. These files can be anything. In the server model, from text documents to multimedia to photos,  file servers are called computers. Because it is responsible for storing and managing data files. Files can be accessed from other computers on the same network.  
  • Database server: A computer system capable of providing services related to accessing and retrieving data from databases. It is like a warehouse where website data and information is stored and maintained. 
  • Mail Server: As the name  suggests, it is a server that processes and delivers mail over a network on the Internet. A mail server is also known as a mail server transfer agent (MTA) or Internet mailer. All emails we send go through a series of mail servers. When I send an email, it immediately arrives in another email. But in reality, it’s a complicated process of sending emails. 
  • FTP Server: Its full name is a file transfer protocol whose mission is  online file transfer. When you request a web page in your web browser, the browser uses the same protocol to display that file.
